Mr. Speaker. among the events etched in living memory which serve as an eternal lesson to the Western World of the expansionist intentions and brutal practices of the Soviet Union are the forcible annexation of the free nations of Estonia. Latvia and Lithuania 41 years ago this month on June 14 and 15. 1940. and the inhumane mass deportations to Siberia of approximately 100.000 Balts beginning 1 year later. Sadly. Moscows practice of invading. occupying. and forcibly absorbing whole nations and ethnic homelands into the socalled Soviet Union or sphere of influence did not begin nor did it end with the Baltic countries.
