Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970034326

Speaker. would also serve as an appropriate forum to focus attention on those members of our Armed Forces who served in the Vietnam conflict and remain missing in action. During my tenure in Congress. I have had the occasion to review reports from refugees who indicate that Americans remain captive in Southeast Asia. and I have received assurances that the Defense Intelligence Agency is making every effort to investigate these reports. We must continue to impress upon the governments involved that this is an issue which all Americans view with utmost importance. The day of recognition would say to the brave men and women who so admirably served this country that we do remember the frustration of not being able to reach out and help. that we remember the nagging suspicions caused by not knowing. and that we remember the joy and pride our country experienced upon their return.
