Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970020700

Tony stepped down as chairman a few months ago when he was elected to the Democratic National Committee. Tonys activism in politics stems from a patriotic and fundamental belief in the American system. This is not surprising because his parents immigrated from Poland seeking the opportunity of a newer world. Tony was born on September 6. 1913. in Grand Rapids and moved to Bay City in 1940. Tonys father was a factory worker. but like many immigrant families. the Bielawskis worked hard to provide opportunities to their son in the land of opportunity. Tony received his high school education at St. Joseph Seminary in Grand Rapids and then continued his education at the University of Michigan. where he received his bachelor of arts. and later. in 1937. his law degree.
