Speech #970018254

Speaker. as the violence and instability in El Salvador continues. the real victims in that countrys battle become more apparent: its people. The campesinos. the shopkeepers. the laborers. and the teachers are caught in a power struggle over which they have no control. They are the byproducts of a faltering society. Many Salvadorans have. therefore. been forced to leave their country for political reasons. I do not believe that it is fair to turn back these refugees because they do not have proper documentation. at least not until they have pleaded their cases before the U.S. Government. They must be given due process.
