Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970004871

Speaker. the plight of Soviet Jews is one which should concern not only the Jewish community. but all of humanity because it involves the denial of a basic freedom. When a man such as Dr. Viktor Brailovsky is forbidden to leave a country which has never accepted him or his people because of their religious beliefs. there is a gross injustice. Dr. Brailovsky is a Jewish computer scientist living in the Soviet Union. When he first applied for permission to emigrate from the Soviet Union to Israel in October 1972. permission was denied. The Soviet Government claimed that his wife. Irina. also a computer scientist. may have obtained "secret information" while working at Moscow University.
