Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960351568

Mr. Speaker. the news that terrorists had murdered four helpless nuns recently in El Salvador shocked all decent people. Two of the slain women were missionaries from Nicaragua. the others were working with the poor in El Salvador. All were American citizens and all were involved only in helping reduce the misery of the refugees in that wartorn country. I join my colleagues. Representatives JOHN SEIBERLING and TOM HARKIN. in protesting the deaths of these women. They were not combatants and their killers must not go unpunished. It is my sincere hope that the military leaders of El Salvador will not believe this Nation will ignore this attack on our citizens.
