The Senator from New Jersey has come to be known as a strong advocate for the rights of American workers during his membership on the committee. Senator WILLIAMS. as chairman. worked aggressively to insure that the committee remained sensitive to the needs of all Americans. His activities on behalf of the handicapped. the elderly. migrant workers. children and youth. and those with problems of alcoholism or drug abuse have touched the lives of every citizen. PETE WILLIAMS efforts on behalf of older Americans show an unparalleled record of compassion. caring. and dedication. He was responsible for passage of the 1968 joint resolution which created the 1971 White House Conference on Aging.
