The House will especially feel the loss of his expertise on the Ways and Means Committee and as chairman of the Committees Trade Subcommittee. CHARLIE VANIK has been an outspoken leader for a more progressive and more equitable tax system. Also. his deep concern and commitment to human rights and individual liberties lead to the successful passage of the VanikJackson amendment which denies which favored nation trade status to the Soviet Union until it allows the free emigration of Jews and other peoples. The devotion of CHARLIE VANIK has shown to helping the people of Ohio and to preserving the best interests of our Nation stands as a shining example to all who aspire to public office.
