Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960318715

Speaker. Oliver Wendell Holmes once called Americans "the Romans of the modern worldthe great assimilating people." Since her founding. America has. indeed. been a nation of immigrants. Peoples from all across the world have come to our shores. seeking freedom and a chance to fulfill their potential. by their dedicated spirit. they have left an invaluable mark on the American way of life. The success stories of so many such immigrants testify to the value of our system and to the reality of the American ideal. One outstanding immigrant from the heart of my own district in Parkchester. Bronx. N.Y.. is Cahit Yeter.
