President Wilson has often been called the godfather of the Republic of Czechoslovakia. as well as one of historys most ardent supporters of the right to selfdetermination for all nations. Sacrificing their traditional way of life. the first generation of Slovaks to set foot on American soil left their families behind and underwent numerous hardships to reap the blessings of their promised land. Despite the difficulties of language and customs which these early Slovak immigrants encountered. they persevered and earned the respect of our Nation. as well as the unique benefits of our great land. Today. Americans of Slovak descent truly embody the spirit of our country.
