Christopher Columbus. as well as to the man who lent it his name. Amerigo Vespucci. It is with a deep and abiding sense of. respect that I mention the names of those two courageous individuals. who risked life and fortune in what was to become the great American tradition of exploring the unknown. It was a similar thirst for freedom which brought waves of Italian immigrants to our shores in the late 19th century. It was a similar drive toward achievement which motivated the likes of Fiorello LaGuardia. Frank Sinatra. and Enrico Fermi to not only excell but to reach the very zenith of their chosen professions.
