Yet the Afghans. having had an opportunity to witness the effect of communism on bordering regions. are fighting back for all they are worth. Freedom is still alive there. and we are glad to see it. I had the opportunity to speak with these Afghan rebels at the Peshawar refugee camps in Pakistan during our Armed Services Committee trip to the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf in April. The message from Peshawar was that the Afghans have absolutely no intention of giving up. They will fight on alone if need be. but we have a great opportunity to help them retain their freedom.
