Mr. and Mrs. Schmid applied for U.S. citizenship. completed the required studies. and passed the examination of February 2. 1977. On February 17. while awaiting notification of their scheduled appearance in court for naturalization. Mrs. Leopoldine Schmid was murdered. the victim of an attempted robbery by two gunmen who were never found.
