Senator BOREN and I met with them in August of last year. Several resolutions mentioning the families have been introduced in Congress. but stronger measures must be taken. In May of this year. 49 of our colleagues joined me in sending a letter to President Brezhnev urging that visas be granted to the families on a humanitarian basis. We wrote that this "would be in the best interests of amicable relations between our countries." There has been no answer. The Vashchenko family recently wrote an open letter to the hostages in Iran. whom they feel are in a similar situation.
