Mr. Speaker. I am glad to have this opportunity to join my colleagues in the commemoration of the 10thyear anniversary of the Leningrad trials. the culmination of an act of desperation by 11 Soviet citizens. 9 of whom are Jews. who were denied permission to emigrate. Given no hope for a better life. they conspired to hijack a Soviet airplane to escape to freedom. but were apprehended before their plans were initiated. To this day. 3 of the 11 remain imprisoned. suffering from these past 10 years. I join my colleague. Father DRINAN. whose leadership in this matter I admire and appreciate. in calling for the release of these three remaining prisoners.
