It seems to me we need to be morE concerned about the interests of thE American people. A lot has been said. and my distinguished friend from Maryland in his lucid way was concerned. about the signal we would send out. The most valuable thing we could do would be to send that signal. It is time the rest of the world recognizes that the refugee problem. the problem of poverty in the world. the problem of hunger. is an international problem and it is not for the United States to do the entire job. There is plenty of poverty right here in this country. which needs to be taken care of first.
