Speaker. as a member of the House Postsecondary Education Subcommittee. I rise in full support of H.R. 4155 which is aimed at expanding the Federal Governments laudable efforts to reduce the rate of student loan defaults. H.R. 4155 would accomplish this by expanding existing law to allow the Treasury Department to disclose to the Department of Education the mailing addresses of taxpayers who have defaulted on guaranteed student loans or on student loans made under the Migration and Refugee Assistance Act. Existing law limits this disclosure to defaulters on national direct student loans. Those of us who have served in the past few Congresses can point with pride to the various pieces of legislation which we have enacted to expand the opportunity for Americans to receive a higher education.
