Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960247064

That is the subject of our orderly departure negotiations which I mentioned in my testimony. Following the Geneva Conference. we engaged in discussions in part on a direct bilateral basis. in part through the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and we have continued those negotiations with the Vietnamese now for many months. I have participated in them personally. We have made some progress -but it has been painfully slow. We now have about 1.300 names which the Vietnameseand we have agreed upon for interview in South Vietnam. We have a voluntary organization representative standing ready to go to Ho Chi MinhVille to interview as a prerequisite for flights into Ho Chi MinhVille with U.S.
