These people are not eligible for admission under any criteria. and they should be returned to Cuba without delay. This country must weigh the needs of its own citizens against the desperation of foreigners wanting in. With more than 7 million Americans out of work. it is hardly surprising that the public does not welcome a chaotic new avalanche of Cuban refugees. The public knows that we have already opened our gates farther than any other country. having accepted more immigrants and refugees this year than the rest of the free world combined. It has been well observed. in the Miami Herald. that "no nation can be a lifeboat to all who want to climb aboard. Allow too many aboard. with needs that cannot be met. and the lifeboat will sink. taking all hands with it.
