Mr. President. in spite of the fact that we are a nation of immigrants. the experiences of the new arrivals to our shores have become increasingly foreign to most Americans. The difficulties which our forefathers faced when they reached their new homeland are now only distant memories thought to be of concern only to the family historian. Our Nation has not. however. ceased to serve as a refuge of hope for the needy and oppressed throughout the world. One such group which I would like to call to the attention of my colleagues and the public is the Hmong people of Laos.
