Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960239967

Unfortunately. he House rejected the Senate amendment and sent the bill with the interest exemption largely restored back to the Senate. Since the Senate cannot again amend S. 918. the bill is now at the Senate desk. The cost of the SBA disaster programs continues to mount. The recent disaster at Mount St. Helens and the cost of the Cuban refugee situation will tax our resources to the limit. Reform is essential to use those resources effectively. Passage of this amendment would reduce the budget impact of the SBA disaster loan program by $0.8 billion in budget authority and $0.6 billion in outlays.
