Mr. Speaker. 12 days ago officials at the Peruvian Embassy in Havana opened the Embassy gates to admit refugees fleeing Castros Cuba. Almost immediately the grounds were jammed with some 10.000 people who left their belongings. their jobs. their friends. and in some cases their families for a chance to go to Peru. Some 10.000 people were suddenly presented an opportunity to flee their country. They did not need days to make up their minds. They seized that opportunity in a flash. In our own country and around the world we often hear people extol Cuba as a great model society.
