Afghans have been thrown into jail as political prisoners. Afghans have been driven from their homes into refugee camps. religious groups and mosques have been fired upon. World reaction has varied from economic sanctions and statements of moral outrage to complacency. Those who are complacent seem to argue that Afghanistan is very far away. and that. besides. it is on the Soviet border. as if the Soviets somehow have a license to envelop their neighbors.
