Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960216727

In my capacity as chairman of the Committee on Labor and Human Resources. I have received a substantial number of letters on this subject from farmworkers and farmworker advocates. These letters express deep concern that proposed changes in the statutory provisions in question would destroy important legal protections under the Farm Labor Contractor Registration Act for a substantial number of farmworkers. Among these protections is. of course. the only Federal law prohibiting employment of undocumented alien workers. Because of the widespread interest in these issues. I would like to make some of these letters available to my colleagues. and I ask that they be printed in the RECORD.
