Speech #960215803

The light of freedom their exodus litfreedom from slavery. whether physical or spiritual or political or economicthat light has burned bright in the hearts of men of all faiths and creeds through the ages. The annual observance of Passover for these thousands of years provides a constant reminder that freedom must never be taken for granted and must be fought for and earned in every generation. This year the message of Passover speaks to the oppressed Jews and Christians in the Soviet Union and elsewhere who seek to follow their religious beliefs or freely emigrate. That message of freedom speaks to the imprisonment of the American hostages in Iran. it speaks to the slaughter and subjugation of the Afghan people by Russian aggression. it speaks to the oppression of human beings everywhere who struggle for the right to be free physically and spiritually. economically and politically. The message of Passover is the message of freedom.
