Mr. Shcharanskys real crime appeared to be an expression of freedom of speech. the desire to emigrate to Israel and a history of helping other Soviet Jews who have been victims of Soviet aggression. We. in the United States. are most fortunate to have the protection of the Constitution. We are afforded the freedom to challenge those individuals with whose opinions we differ. without fear of reprisal.
