Despite all the efforts of the KGB to destroy it. the "Chronicle of the Lithuanian Catholic Church" has appeared since 1972. Lithuanians such as Nijole Sadunaite. Petras Plumpa. and Vitautas Skuodas have been imprisoned for their Involvement with samlzdat. Lithuanians have also been active in the Soviet Helsinki movement. as witnessed in the activity of the Lithuanian Helsinki Group which is concerned with such issues as russification. emigration. and the plight of Lithuanian political prisoners. for example. Algiras Zhipre and Petras Paulaitis. In revenge. the KGB has imprisoned for 15 years Viktoras Petkus and Balys Gajauskas who are associated with the Lithuanian Helsinki Group.
