For 100 years. this organization has been proclaiming to Americans of Polish origin the awareness of their ethnic heritage and its value to the society and culture of the United States. The history of PNA is a story of enriching American life with enduring values of Polish culture. history. and tradition. But most important. it is a story of expediting the entry of Polish immigrants and their Americanborn children into the mainstream of American life. It has been the hallmark of the organizations mission and accomplishments. This purpose has been clearly stated in the basic principles of the PNA as set forth by the first constitutional convention of September 1880. in Chicago. It declared that the main objectives of the organization were: To provide protection for Polish immigration: To provide political enlightenment to the Polish immigrants as citizens of the United States 0 0 0 These objectives were successfully pursued by the official PNA organ. Zgoda. since 1881. by its sister publication. the Polish Daily Zgoda (Dziennik Zwiazkowy) since 1908. by various pamphlets. lectures. and traveling libraries. and also through Alliance College. founded in 1912. The PNA history is divided into four phases.
