Prisoners. the fees and expenses of witnesses. the Community Relations Service. the FBI. and the Federal Prison System. However. there were several areas of controversy I wish to highlight: First. The House amendment provided $106.267.000 for general legal activities of the Department while the Senates authorization figure was $111.748.000. The House provision required that $3 million be made available for the prosecution of denaturalization and deportation cases involving alleged Nazi war criminals still residing in this country. The compromise adopted the higher Senate -authorization and reduced the mandatory funding for Nazi war criminal investigations to $2.3 million while authorizing an additional $0.7 million for that purpose.
