While I applaud the Presidents move to sever direct oil ties with Iran and the freezing of assetsand I am sure the country approvesthis action may not. in my opinion. change matters concerning the hostages. It merely indicates that the people of the United States are willing to tighten their belts. I strongly urge the President to maintain the momentum he has in dealing with the Iranian issue. First. do not allow the Immigration Service to drag its feet in dealing with the Iranians in violation of their visas. Second. invoke every economic sanction available to usrestricting grain. food. and military sales to Iran. Third. and most important. reiterate our policy of strict adherence to international law. firmly defining the sanctity of our embassies and protection of their confines.
