Speech #960127572

Mr. Speaker. on April 4. I introduced the United StatesAsian Immigration Act which would provide preferential treatment in the admission of Amerasian individuals. During the August recess the Subcommittee on Immigration. Refugees and International Law received the executive comments on the bill from the Department of Health. Education. and Welfare. the Department of State. and the Department of Justice. Thirtytwo of my colleagues and I feel that the departmental reports are inadequate and have missed the intent of the legislation. We would like to submit the following comments for the record: As sponsors of H.R. 3439. which would provide preferential treatment in the admission of Amerasian individuals. we are troubled with the legislative assessments contained in the reports from the Department of Justice and the Department of State.
