Much of our interest in Mexico centers around their energy resources but we have much more to gain through close cooperation with that country and we should begin discussing some of these equally important issues. We have numerous cultural. geographic. climatic. and economic ties with Mexico that should have generated our current levels of interest long ago. We also share many problems with Mexico in areas of trade. immigration. and land and water management that can only be solved through cooperative efforts. Mexican oil and gas will push these areas to the forefront and we need to begin preparing to address these issues now. One successful example of United StatesMexico cooperation was the recent meeting in Saltillo.
