After the uprising in Hungary we accepted over 30.000 Hungarians. And during the past 16 years we have assimilated some 675.000 Cubans who fled Communist Cuba. We are a nation of immigrants and refugees. a "melting pot" of many nationalities. From our Founding Fathers to the present our families have been. at one time or another. immigrant families. Not all of them had jobs. Not all of them could speak or understand English. But our families came here and the immigrant families before them took them in. We are now asked to welcome 150.000 people. And if this is a burden it is a minor one for a country of 210 million.
