Session #94 · 1975–77

Speech #940051377

Speaker. I was among those who voted against this bill when it passed the House because it provided for a repeal of the prohibitions against military intervention in Indochina. In addition it provided for the use of military force to remove Vietnamese political refugees in category (d) where there was no relationship to any resident or citizen of the United States or where the individual did not meet any eligibility test for admission as an immigrant into the United States. I vehemently opposed such consent of use of arms and therefore voted against the bill. I opposed taking up the bill in the first place and voted for every motion to delay its consideration.
