Session #94 · 1975–77

Speech #940050693

Senator KENNEDY. addressed the Charter Day ceremonies commemorating the 107th anniversary of the University of California at Berkeley. In his speech Senator KENNEDY spoke not only of the trials of Americas involvement in the Vietnam war. but also of the challenges facing this Nation in the years to come. Having hopefully learned the lesson of our tragic involvement in Southeast Asia. the Nation must now strive to decelerate the strategic arms race. rebuild the shattered lives of millions of needy refugees. restore faith in our security commitments abroad. reassess our international economic policies. and reassert the dedication of this Nation to human rights around the world. Because I think Senator KENNEDY has done a great service in reminding us of both the opportunities and the difficult tasks remaining ahead in the postVietnam era. I ask unanimous consent that his statement be printed in the RECORD.
