The NorwegianAmerican population has also functioned as a dynamic factor in our electoral process. In fact. in some of the rural Midwestern districts the Norwegian population influences the balance of power between the competing political parties. as many of my colleagues are no doubt well aware. It is evident that NorwegianAmericans have made numerous contributions which have affected the development of America. I feel that it is important that we recognize them during this year of their sesquicentennial celebration of their immigration to America. Today nearly 3 million NorwegianAmericans live in the United States. I believe we should recognize and honor these people and their ancestors.
