The best men rot in filthy jails. And those who cry "appease. appease." Are hanged by those they try to please. Vietnamese by the hundreds of thousands are fleeing to the south ahead of their socalled liberators. Some of them had fled to the south years ago. when that nation was partitioned. They know what fate awaits them. if they do not move on. No one claims an Americanstyle democracy exists in South Vietnam. No one claims that it ever did. or that it ever could. What is important. though. is not what the refugees are running toward. but what they are fleeing from.
