Speech #940042247

Mr. President. on Sunday. April 13. more than 100.000 Americans joined together in New York to express solidarity with thousands of our fellow human beings who are in the Soviet Union only because they cannot get out. It was a demonstration in support of fundamental human rights affirmed by international law. I had the privilege of participating in this Solidarity Day gathering. and I would like to share my remarks on this occasion with my colleagues in the Senate. which initiated the EastWest trade and freedom of emigration legislation now on the U.S. statute books. Mr. President. I ask unanimous consent that the text of my remarks be printed in the RECORD.
