It is indeed regrettable that similar legislation was pocket vetoed by the President last year after lengthy and careful deliberation by the 93d Congress. I am hopeful that prompt enactment of this legislation can be achieved so that our Nations needs in the area of nurse training and health services can .ontinue to be met. In addition to the provisions of this bill which extend three major existing health service authoritiesthe migrant health centers program. the community health centers program. and the community mental health centers programthis bill provides much needed support to our nursing profession. Our nurses provide a unique and valuable service in the health delivery system of our Nation and our policies need to reflect this. This bill is directnd toward that end.
