These dedicated women have developed continued Interest and support for Ukrainian women who have been imprisoned for speaking out on issues that affect their lives and those of their fellow citizens. Many of these confined women are highly talentedamong them are a microbiologist. an artist. a writer. and an historianyet they are prevented from contributing to the life of their nation. In light of the current celebration of International Womens Year. at a time when we strive not only for womens rights. but for the rights of all people. I urge the immediate release of these Ukrainian women and all who are imprisoned or otherwise persecuted for seeking to practice basic freedomsfreedom of speech and religion and freedom to emigrate.
