Let me stress my belief that these expressions of support from free nations to the brave and vigilant natives of the Ukraine are very necessary. During the last session of Congress we in this body managed to influence the release of Simas Kudirka. a captive Lithuanian seaman who is now safe in the United States. We also came close to forcing the Soviet Union to open up their emigration policies in return for favored trade status. With these accomplishments in mind. I am hopeful that our resolutions of support for Valentyn Moroz. the imprisoned Ukrainian intellectual. will result in his release in 1975.
