Session #93 · 1973–75

Speech #930342436

We too often permit the will of the House to be subverted in some particular way by a different bill on a different occasion which is brought up under allegedly new circumstances. and yet the circumstances are really exactly the same. The circumstances on October 16 were exactly those that prevail today. There are close to 200.000 Greek Cynriot refugees in camps and in tents. We do not see the Turks moving out of the 40 percent of Cyprus that they occunied by force. which is what we said they must do if we are to continue to give them aid. What I am suggesting to the House is that if we go along with this proposition and extend the deadline. we are falling into the very trap that was probably set by the opponents of the amendment on October 16.
