I think middleincome people deserve Federal support as well. but I also happen to feel that farmworkers deserve support for a wide variety of reasons. One of them is that of human compassion. which is not the least among themas a matter of fact. I think probably the most important reason. but. second. it seems to me that if we are really concerned about the working American citizen. we ought to recognize that the programs that we now have. which are really donothing programs for housing for migrant workers. are only going to -encourage foreign entrants. illegal entrants. to come into the country and take the jobs away from the American citizens. The reason why they are going to come in and take the jobs Is that they are living under worse conditions in their homeland. and they are going to be able to work for a few months. make American dollars. bring them across the border. and they are going to be able thereby to live better in their homeland than if they had not come up to the United States.
