Among the interesting bits of history associated with the Ingram family is the old Ingram homestead erected by Joseph Ingram before 1775 on a land grant from King George III on the Pee Dee River in North Carolina. It is now known as Riverdale House and still stands. Most of the Ingrains. Ingrahams. Inghams. and so forth. in the United States are assumed to be descended from immigrants from the British Isles. It may be noteworthy. however. that Inghirami was the name of an Italian noble family of Volterra. They were prominent in the late 1400s. 1500s. 1600s. and into the 1700s.
