I rise in support of H.R. 15404 but I am deeply concerned over the drastic reduction of funds for the Department of Justice. While there are substantial increases in funding for the Department of Justice as compared with fiscal year 1974. the committee has reduced the amount contained in the Presidents budget request by over $30 million. These reductions. in my opinion. will substantially affect the operation of the Antitrust Division. the Immigration and Naturalization Service. and the LEAA programs established by the Congress. I am particularly disturbed by the $6.4 million reduction in appropriations to the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration. It appears that there should be no higher priority than to assure our country of a safe environment on our streets and in our communities.
