The "crew leaders" operations are presently governed by the Farm Labor Contractor Registration Act of 1963. which became effective January 1. 1965Public Law 88582. 78 statute 920. The bill under consideration. to amend the Farm Labor Contractor Registration Act has significant Implications for protection of our migrant farm workers nationwide. It is a bipartisan approach to end the abuses of which we are all aware and which last year received national publicity with the typhoid epidemic at one Florida migrant farm labor camp. We passed the 1963 legislation in the hope of getting all crew leaders registered. We found that legislation necessary because some crew leaders were mistreating and cheating the farm workers they recruited and transported.
