As a relief and rehabilitation unit representing 31 Protestant and Orthodox denominations. it has since 1954 used more than 4 1/2 billion pounds of Food for Peace commodities. valued at more than $320 million for emergency relief and community development projects in such places of need as India. Bangladesh. the Sudan. Brazil. and Haiti. In addition. CWS has since 1946 made available. with the help of CROP. its Community Hunger Appeal. millions of dollars worth of private resources in direct relief. technical. and material development assistance. and family planning in 60 countries.
