Session #93 · 1973–75

Speech #930191126

Even though solar and geothermal energy are some of the more promising possibilities. we have put forth only token developmental efforts. and they have been scattered among half a dozen Government agencies. If we are to avert a calamitous energy crisis in this country without subjecting ourselves to economic blackmail from oilproducing nations. we must undertake a crash program for the research and development of alternative sources of energy. The Judiciary Committees Subcommittee on Immigration. Citizenship. and International Law is probing the problems related to offshore oil exploration. A great many Americans are skeptical about the oil companies profits and statistics.
