In addition to resupplying Israel this nation must now face the fact that d6tente with the Soviet Union is all but irretrievably shattered. What. then. is the United States to do? Do we have enough leverage on the leaders of the Soviet Union to get them to ease their support of the Arabs? What can we offer them that we have not already? There are certain things that we must not compromise on. among them being the principle of free emigration and an end to repression of dissident intellectuals. We have thrown every trade concession their way and have made many deals that have since been to the great disadvantage of the American consumer. How much more should we do?
