Session #93 · 1973–75

Speech #930133994

President. the September 25 edition of the Petersburg ProgressIndex included an interesting editorial about the career of Judah P. Benjamin. who held three Cabinet positions in the Government of the Confederate States of America. Attention was called to Benjamin when Dr. Henry Kissinger took the oath as Secretary of State. Dr. Kissinger is the first Jew and the first naturalized citizen to hold that office. but Benjamin. who. of course. served more than a century ago. also was of the Jewish faith. I ask unanimous consent that the text of the editorial. "Heres A NotQuitePrecedent." be printed in the Extensions of Remarks.
